Mason Root, an East sophomore, capped his successful season on ice by helping lead the Denver-based Colorado Thunderbirds 16U AAA hockey team to a Tier 1 State Championship.
In the finale, the Thunderbirds defeated The Rocky Mountain Rough Riders 3-2, capping a four-game run to the title. Mason was credited with 3 goals and 3 assists in the tournament.
From his right-wing position, Mason tallied 31 goals and 21 assists this season for the Thunderbirds.
On hand to cheer Mason on was his sister, Mickey, and her volleyball teammate Ashlynn Koch.
