COLT COACH SHANNAN LANE EARNS TOP COACHING AWARD
South High School’s Shannan Lane, who made Colorado history by becoming the first female to coach a boy’s high school basketball team, has been chosen as the 2022 Sportswomen of Colorado High School Coach of the Year.
In that history-making year — her second at the helm — Coach Lane led the Colts to the 4A championship game after an undefeated regular and playoff season.
Coach Lane and the other women, coaches, and organizations are being recognized by Sportswomen of Colorado for their outstanding sports achievements during 2022.
In all, 49 will be honored at the 49th annual awards gala March 23 at the Denver Tech Center.
“The award is a true testament to their incredible talent and dedication,” said a spokeswoman for the organization.
Some notable award recipients include WNBA Coach of the Year Becky Hammon, MVP of the National Women’s Soccer League Sophia Smith, and volleyball coach Tom Hilbert, who recently retired with more than 800 career victories at Colorado State University.
Coach Lane, who saw great success as the head coach of South’s girl’s team, led the boys to the 4A playoffs in her first year as coach.
