HURLIMAN SCHOLAR PROFILE: MITCHELL MAURO
Central Wildcat Mitchell is a full four-year Hurliman Scholarship recipient.
“I feel that I was selected by the Hurliman Foundation because, similarly to their founders, I plan to lead and give back to my community in any way that I can,” Mitchell said. “Their values and mission are very similar to mine, making me a perfect fit to represent their organization.”
At Central, and within the community, Mitchell’s active participation is worthy of commendation.
“I have been involved in Annual Staff, Italian Club, Speech and Debate, golf and swimming, theater, Newman Club, Colorado GEAR UP, Branch Out, FBLA, DECA, Cat Crew, National Honor Society, Pueblo’s Mayor Youth Advisory Council and the health department’s Youth Advisory Board,” he noted.
This active and high-achieving scholar/athlete said the impact of Central educators on his life is significant.
“Because of the specific educators that I have made bonds with through the four years at Central, I have been provided the opportunity to grow into who I am. Without their guidance and constant support, I would not be in the same situation that I am so grateful to be in today,” he said.
In addition to the Hurliman Foundation scholarship, Mitchell received endowments from the local Sons of Italy Lodge and Dante Alighieri Society of Pueblo, as well as several merit-based scholarships from numerous universities.
At the University of Colorado Denver, Mitchell plans to study Finance.
“I would like to give recognition to those that have helped me along the way,” he added. “Colorado GEAR UP and the advisors who work tirelessly to ensure that we are successful in our futures are major proponents of me and everything that I do.
“Ms. Griego, Italian and Yearbook teacher, has been not only an excellent educator, but also a friend who I know would do anything for her students. With the help of these adults, I have been able to achieve new heights.”
