EAGLE CLASS OF 2027 WELCOMED TO THE EMPIRE
The first graduating class of the new East High School, currently 8th graders, were welcomed to the Eagle Empire by Principal Andy Clementi, staff and students during Thursday’s well attended Family Night Open House.
The rich legacy of East, as well as its future in the form of a state-of-the-art two-story building on Constitution Hill, was celebrated during the assembly, which saw hundreds packed into Mel Spence Gymnasium for one of the final events to be hosted there.
“Tonight, you will have an opportunity to see and experience what we at The Eagle Empire have built and will continue to build in our new, state-of-the-art home,” said Principal Clementi. “The future is bright, and the education these students will receive at East will serve as vital building blocks in whatever they choose to create.”
At East, there is an emphasis on meeting the needs of each individual student while challenging all to aspire to their goals.
“We firmly believe if you raise your expectations for the students who attend your school these students will most certainly rise to meet them,” added Principal Clementi. “Our values are embedded in structure, discipline, academics and producing graduates who are well rounded and prepared for a post-secondary life.”
A cornerstone of East for the past 25 years is the highly rigorous International Baccalaureate curriculum, which can culminate with an IB diploma. As East is a certified AVID school, scholars have the opportunity to engage in a program that reinforces IB and adds rigor and problem solving skills to a scholar’s resume.
East is home to several award winning CTE programs, including Manufacturing, DECA, Teacher Cadet, and Catering.
To offers Eagles the full spectrum of the high-school experience, East offers a wealth of clubs, sports and extra-curricular activities, including a CHSAA-sanctioned Esports team.
“The bottom line is this: if you have an interest, we probably have a club to meet your needs” said Principal Clementi, who then praised the school’s performing arts programs, to include jazz band, symphonic band, pep band, drama and four performing choirs.
The evening included performances from the East spirit teams and vocalists, and special recognition of the East wrestling team: back-to-back 4A state champions.
Visitors then were afforded the opportunity to visit with representatives of East’s many clubs and sporting teams, as well as Student Council members, IB scholars, and more, in the halls and cafeteria of the school.
