Isabella accepted a full four-year Hurliman Scholarship and also was offered a Boettcher Scholarship.“I feel I was selected for the Hurliman because I am exactly the person my resume represents,” Isabella said. “I am passionate about the community and the inclusion of everyone. I can guarantee the values I talk so highly about will remain important to me for a lifetime.”
Isabella expressed her appreciation to the Central educators who played a significant role in her development as a scholar and person.
“I had a few notable teachers who helped me achieve my fullest potential, made sure class was challenging,” she said. “And in the case of Signora Griego and Mrs. Waller, they became wonderful mentors and friends.
“I also need to give some credit to GEAR UP (a national pre-collegiate grant program), as I would have been lost in the admissions and scholarship processes if it weren’t for the help of Ms. G and Ms. Lopez.”
As a Wildcat, Isabella has defined the word “active.”
“I have been involved in a lengthy list of clubs sports and activities, the most notable being captain of the girls swim team for 2 years and earning $15,000 from the Central Foundation for the betterment of our equipment and program,” she said.
“I also partnered with the health department’s Communities that Care board to create an app encouraging local youth to visit pro-social locations within the community, as well as small businesses."
As a Wildcat, Isabella also participated in Girls Cabinet, Student Council, FBLA, the Biomedical Pathway, Newman Club, Orman Army Spirit Club, Italian Club, National Honor Society, Speech and Debate, Science Fair and Girls State.
Within the community, Isabella has donated her time and talent to the Mayors Youth Council, Pueblo Zoo, Tom and Louie's Cupboard, the Pueblo Rescue Mission, and Holy Family Catholic Parish.
In addition to the Hurliman, Isabella’s scholarship resume includes awards from the local Sons of Italy Lodge, Dante Alighieri Society of Scholars, Elks International and designation as a “Most Valuable Student,” the Colorado GEAR UP Scholarship and numerous other grants and scholarships.
At the University of Colorado Denver, Isabella plans to pursue a degree in biology in anticipation of a career in pharmacy.
“I would really like to acknowledge all of my fellow peers who have achieved monumental goals this year, it surely does not go unrecognized,” Isabella added.
