Alysia, a Centennial Bulldog, is a recipient of a one-year endowment up to $15,000. She is graduating from Centennial as a junior.
A recent completer of the Health Academy, Alysia served as president of HOSA (Future Medical Professionals), is part of Girls Cabinet, and is currently holding down two jobs, one being a Certified Nursing Assistant.
“I feel I was selected for a Hurliman because even with only three years in high school, I showed the kind of determination I had to continue my education and give back to my community,” she said.
Alysia plans to attend the University of Colorado-Denver and major in Biochemistry through the BA/BS-MD program.
“My educators played a huge role in who I am today,” she said. “I definitely couldn’t have made it to where I am without the encouragement from my teachers when I was feeling defeated.
“I’m truly grateful for this scholarship and none of this could’ve been done without the help of my family, teachers and peers.”
