Roncalli STEM Academy to Close at the End of the Year

D60 IconUPDATE: The special school choice window for Roncalli students has been extended to Monday, May 6th, 2024. If you would like your student to attend another school than the one assigned, you are asked to complete an online application, via the D60 Website

At a special board meeting on April 18, 2024, the Pueblo District 60 School Board of Education voted to close all grade levels offered at Roncalli STEM Academy at the end of the current school year.

The closure was deemed necessary due to significant issues with the school’s heating and air conditioning system.

As determined by existing middle school boundaries, current Roncalli students will be automatically enrolled at another middle school for the 2024-25 school year. Information on enrollment, as well as transportation, is forthcoming.

If you would like your student to attend another school than the one assigned, you have the option of participating in the School Choice process by submitting an online application, via the D60 website, indicating the preferred school(s). You can also contact our office of student records at (719) 253-6014 to make changes to an already submitted application.

If your student is involved in the STEM program at Roncalli, it is important to note that the program will be transferred to Pueblo Academy of Arts.

Although we are not able to guarantee placement, in the case of a school closure, you will be given priority in the process.

Students with an IEP that are currently housed at Roncalli will be relocated to other schools within the district. Placement of students at particular schools will be based on the individual needs of the student and their current address, as determined by the student’s IEP team that includes parents and staff. Case managers will be contacting families to schedule meetings as soon as possible.

Our goal is to work directly with our families to ensure a smooth transition to their new school.  In the coming weeks, officials from schools receiving students from Roncalli will be getting in contact with you, as well as hosting activities to help students and families learn about the school and assist with the transition. Please know that we are here for you and will be happy to assist in any way possible.

We will continue to update you with information throughout the process. In the meantime, if you have questions about your student’s enrollment, please reach out to the appropriate contact listed at the left.
