Music Instrument Drive is Underway and Donations are Needed
Technically, it’s an instrument drive. But by putting the gift of music into a young person’s life, you can change that life.
Every year, the Pueblo School District 60 administration building serves as a drop-off point for the Bringing Music to Life program, a non-profit venture that provides band and orchestra instruments to students in Title 1 Schools across the state.
This year’s drive will run from March 8-21, during which time instruments can be dropped off at the administration building at 315 West 11th Street.
To date, more than 5,500 instruments, worth more than $2.5 million, have been awarded to hundreds of under-funded schools throughout Colorado – including those in D60 – impacting the lives of 17,000 children.
All donated instruments are repaired so they are in excellent playable condition before they are put in the hands of students.
“While it is called an instrument drive, instruments are really the means not the ends. What the drive is truly about is transforming children’s lives through music,” said Steve Blatt, executive director of Bringing Music to Life. “Mastering an instrument helps children develop life skills and self-esteem.”
Applications are reviewed by the Bringing Music to Life board and schools that are selected to receive instruments are notified and invited to an Instrument Presentation Event held in early August.
