STATE SCIENCE/ENGINEERING FAIR PARTICIPANTS HONORED

state-qualifying scholars were recognized by the D60 Board of EducationA total of 15 projects from the Southern Colorado Regional STEM Fair advanced to the State Science and Engineering Fair, held at Colorado State University April 13-15.
 
At the state event, 16 scholars from six D60 schools participated in the judging and interview process and also took advantage of on-campus opportunities such as interactive tours and guest speakers.
 
District 60 teams earned three Special Awards and two placements for the Grand Awards.
 
SPECIAL AWARDS
  • Anntheylea Bachicha, Goodnight: “To Filter or Not To Filter American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Rocky Mountain Section Excellence in Chemical Engineering Award: certificate and $150
  • Justin Bendixson and Myles Marhofer, PSAS: “Driver Safety Tech” Lemelson Foundation, Lemelson Early Inventor Prize: certificate and $100
  • Alex Wachira, Central: “Self-Powered Electric Cars” Platte River Power Authority's Special Award for Energy Efficiency and Innovation: certificate and $300
GRAND AWARDS
  • Kenneth Zittel, Central: “R.O.T Slide” Senior Division, Engineering, Honorable Mention. Kenneth also qualified for the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair in Dallas.
  • Connor Knight, Corwin: “Disinfecting with Boiling Water: Does It Make Objects Safe?” Junior Division, Micro & Molecular Biology, Honorable Mention
Following an introduction by Mary Jose, K-12 Science Teacher on Special Assignment and Director of the Southern Colorado Regional and D60 Elementary STEM Fairs, the state-qualifying scholars were recognized by the D60 Board of Education.
