From his days as a JROTC leader at Centennial High School through his service in Vietnam to his work with the Center for American Values, Drew Dix continues to personify pride in his country and what it means to be a patriot.
Pueblo’s last living Medal of Honor recipient, and the face of Pueblo as the “Home of Heroes,” Mr. Dix will be the guest speaker at the District’s Pride and Patriotism tribute to veterans, which begins at 6 p.m. November 10 at Memorial Hall.
Through a partnership with Center for American Values, Pride and Patriotism affords District scholars, including JROTC cadets, the opportunity to pay tribute to veterans and active duty military through their creative talents.
Under this year’s theme Commitment to Service, students in kindergarten through the 12th grade were encouraged to write an expository script or poem that honors military heroes who have made extreme sacrifices to strengthen America’s values, allowing us to enjoy our diversity, culture, and traditions freely.
The best of these pieces will be recognized with an award presented during the program.
Noted journalist and editor Steve Henson will serve as emcee of the program, which will include several musical presentations as well as the unveiling of student-crafted art pieces reflective of the theme.
Pride and Patriotism is free and open to the public, and tickets are not required to attend.
