As a pilot school for the Community School model, Baca Elementary is committed to more effectively connecting students and families to supports, bolstering partnerships, and giving parents and families more influence in the school community.
On Friday, Baca hosted a Community Giveaway, which true to its name, offered members of the Baca community the opportunity to receive free haircuts and face painting – courtesy of IntelliTec College students – and pick from an auditorium full of donated goods.
From toys to clothing to home furnishings to appliances, the giveaway offered something for every need.
The Community Giveaway was directed by Breanne Escobar, Baca’s Community Schools Coordinator, with Baca staff joining student leaders from East High School, Heaton, Risley and Pueblo Community College in facilitating the event.
Once Baca school families were served, the Giveaway was opened up to residents of the Lower East Side, per the Community School model.
