ALUMNI ROLL CALL: SOUTH STAR ATHLETE NOW A PRO SOCCER PLAYER

Jayma MartinA standout multi-sport athlete at South High School, Class of 2013 member Jayma Martin is now a professional soccer player in Europe.
 
In August, Jayma signed a professional contract to play for the Kosovo-based K.F.F. Mitrovica, which competes in the Women's Football Superleague of Kosovo.
 
During her four years at South, Jayma distinguished herself in varsity soccer, basketball and track. She still holds the school’s long jump record after breaking a 30-year-old mark. She was part of a Colt relay team that finished second at the state level, with her relay teams still holding the fastest times in South history.
 
Jayma also was part of the 2013 South girls basketball team that captured the 4A state title.
 
As a youth, Jayma’s soccer career began with the Pueblo Rangers.
 
After graduation, Jayma headed to the West Coast to continue her academic and athletic career. She played her freshman year at Cal State Dominguez Hills and then at Santa Monica College as a sophomore.
 
Jayma played her final two years at Grand Valley State (Michigan). As a junior, she scored the game-winning goal in leading her team to a third consecutive NCAA Division II National Championship. The following year, Grand Valley State missed repeating as national champions by a point.
 
As a junior, Jayma was named to the NCAA All Tournament Team and as a senior, her honors included being named to the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association All-America Second Team and All-Midwest Region First Team.
 
Jayma earned a Masters in kinesiology and interned at UCLA for a year-and-a-half before spending the summer of 2022 playing for Miss Kick, a women’s semi-pro team that originated in England.
 
Jayma’s mother, Gidget Martinez, is a graduate of East High School who was part of the Aquilas Dance Team. She is now on the Cardiac Surgery team at Cedar-Sinai in Los Angeles.
 
Her father, Brian Martin, was a multi-sport athlete at Widefield High School.
