NETTIE S. FREED EXPEDITIONARY INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS

Freed Enroll Now PosterThe name Nettie S. Freed is returning to the District in the form of an Expeditionary Learning School, set to open on the campus at 715 W. 20th St. that once housed Freed Middle School.

Nettie S. Freed K-8 Expeditionary will open its doors in Fall 2023. In an expeditionary curriculum, students learn from “learning expeditions,” and self driven exploration, rather than sitting in a classroom being taught one subject at a time.

Expeditionary learning is designed to develop character as well as intellect, with a positive effect on school culture.

To inform the community about this exciting new educational venture – and to introduce Principal Nic Roberts -- the District is hosting a series of informational meetings:

  • Wednesday, November 2, 5:30-7 p.m.: District 60 Administration Building, 315 W. 11th Street
  • Friday, November 4, noon-1:30 p.m.: Centennial High School Cafeteria
  • Saturday, November 5, noon-1:30 p.m.: South High School Cafeteria
  • Saturday, November 12, 5:30- 7 p.m.: East High School Cafeteria

At these meetings, attendees will hear a brief presentation about the school and the K-6 enrollment process, which opens November 15 and runs through January 3.

There will be activities for students, as well as free T-shirts and food prepared by Southwest Foodservice Excellence. Attendees can look forward to cupcakes (November 2), a nachos bar (November 4), barbecue plate (November 5) and a pasta bar (November 12.)
