Columbian Elementary t-shirts and hoodies folded on kindergarten desksColumbian Elementary kicked off the slate of D60 Kindergarten Showcases by revealing all the benefits that come with being a Kindergarten ThunderBolt.

“We do balanced beginnings where all students work with our three Kinder teachers the first week of school to look at academic and social-emotional areas so that we can create the most balanced classes possible,” said Principal Jimmie Pool.

Additionally, Kinder students participate in a Vocabulary Challenge to learn new words, thus increasing their understanding and comprehension.

“We take trips to the ice rink, the zoo, and more,” Principal Pool said. “We have sensory items and calming tools in each classroom to support our students, and offer music, science, and P.E. for all students. Our students receive intentional small group reading lessons daily.

“Our teachers have received many hours of professional development around supporting student's social and emotional needs.”

The first 15 families that enroll in Columbian Kindergarten will receive a free shirt or hoodie.
