DISTRICT PERSONNEL AMONG THOSE HONORED BY LIBRARY DISTRICT
For the 34th year, the Pueblo City-County Library District honored women making a positive and uplifting impact in the community through the Outstanding Women Awards.
As nominated by colleagues and associates, the 40 awardees included two District principals and a board member, and several others with ties to the District.
With District 60 serving as the nominator, Minnequa Principal Katie Harshman and Board of Education member Barb Clementi were recognized.
Principal Harshman was lauded for bringing Minnequa to state-level excellence after the school was on the brink of being closed.
Prior to her service on the Board, Barb Clementi spent her career as a middle school ELA and reading teacher in the District.
As nominated by Heather Huffman, Central Principal Destin Mehess received an award for her work in leading Central out of “Turnaround” status and establishing the city’s highest graduation rate and a positive culture at the school.
Also honored were District 60 substitute teacher Kryste Brown (Junior League of Pueblo, nominee), South Athletics Department Administrative Assistant Shelley Swerdfeger (Marina Jones), and Roe Ann Collette (Delta Kappa Gamma Beta), who spent her educational career in the District and retired as Principal of Paragon Learning Center.
Teresa Therriault, who spent part of her career working with special needs students in District elementary and middle schools, was nominated by the Friends of the Pueblo City-Country Library District as was Peggy Wolf, who ended a 40-year teaching career at Carlile Elementary.
