D60 RECEIVES LOCAL FOOD PROGRAM GRANT

The Colorado Department of Education will award the District $25,333 as part of the Local Food Program Grant, a program that connects Colorado food producers with local school districts.

The funds will allow the District to partner with local farmers and producers to source local products for the school lunch program.

“We are thrilled to be selected for the Local Food Program this year,” said Dana Elkins-Greene, Director of Nutrition Services for D60. "This program gives our students access to fresh, nutritious food while also supporting our local farmers, ranchers and businesses. It’s a great opportunity that benefits our kids, the economy and our local community.”

Now in its second year, the Local Food Program is a pilot program that launched following the passage of Colorado HB-1132 in 2019. The grant will help the District provide students with nutritious, high-quality food to help them excel in the classroom while also supporting Colorado farmers/ranchers/businesses.
