Over the five-year grant span, the District will implement the Magnet Program, entitled “Project Heroes,” at Park View Elementary, Risley International Academy of Innovation and Centennial High School.
At each school, the grant will provide significant funding and resources, including additional equipment, personnel, instructional programming, and professional development.
Each host site will serve as a magnet for this programming, allowing students from throughout District 60, Charter Schools, and neighboring Pueblo County School District #70 the opportunity to apply and “choice” into the the district to participate in our programs.
Studies show that STREAM programming encourages creativity, collaboration, and use of social and critical thinking skills, while boosting curiosity and offering opportunities for real-world applications.
In August, Drew Hirshon, the District’s Director of Magnet Schools, hosted a professional development attended by Magnet School Leadership Team members representing Park View Elementary School, Risley International Academy of Innovation and Centennial High School.
This Project Based Learning experience was designed to be viewed through the lens of a student. The participants engaged in all phases of a Gold Standard project, followed by reflection on school classroom practices with a goal of generating a deeper understanding of Project Based Learning.
Director Hirshon was joined by Assistant Superintendent Ted Johnson and principals Kitty Odell, Janelle Manes and Alex Trujillo, and other District leaders.
The STREAM programming is expected to be in place at the start of the 2025-26 school year with opportunities for students and community to engage in STREAM activities and during the 2024-2025 school year.
