D60 COLORADO TEACHERS OF THE YEAR, SUPPORT STAFF HONORED

In a long-standing tradition, three D60 peer-nominated educators and three Classified Support Staff were honored Thursday for their commitment, dedication and professionalism. Each year, the Pueblo County Chapter of the Colorado Teacher of the Year Program honors dedicated, knowledgeable and skilled K-12 classroom educators with a Colorado Teacher of the Year Award.

DISTRICT LEADERS RECOGNIZED BY GREATER PUEBLO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

During Thursday's Business During Lunch hosted by the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce, Superintendent Charlotte Macaluso, Board of Education President Tommy Farrell and Board Member Barb Clementi, and the D60 Communications Team were recognized by Chamber President Duane Nava before those gathered in the Pueblo Convention Center.

SUPERINTENDENT'S CROSS-CURRICULUM WRITING AWARD WINNERS

For more than three decades, scholars in elementary, middle and high school have been encouraged to demonstrate their literary talents in this showcase, started by the late Edmund Vallejo, a D60 educator and Superintendent, who valued the importance of writing.

MIDDLE SCHOOL ART SHOW WINNERS

IN A GALAXY NOT SO FAR AWAY...

With the halls and space of Centennial decked out in a Star Wars-influenced "May the Fourth Be With You: To Explore, Play and Create" theme, participants took advantage of 24 activity stations hosted by volunteers from Google, Collins Aerospace, CSU Pueblo, PCC, the Air Force Academy, Sphero Robotics, Kinazium, Holograms from D11 Palmer HS, and many more.

THE DISTRICT SALUTES THIS YEAR’S RETIREES, LONG-TIME EMPLOYEES

Centuries of service to the scholars and families of District 60, in the form of hard-working and loyal teachers, administrators and support staff, were celebrated Thursday by Superintendent Charlotte Macaluso and Human Resources administrators.

TOP ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ARTISTS RECOGNIZED

The call for submissions for the 2023 Elementary Art Show drew an impressive 175 entries, with 11 earning Best of Show designation. Nearly 200 patrons attended the opening reception at the Rawlings Library. The "king" of this year's show, "King Kobra" by Elijah Vigil-Camacho of Beulah Heights, earned the Superintendent's Award.

STATE SCIENCE/ENGINEERING FAIR PARTICIPANTS HONORED

A total of 15 projects from the Southern Colorado Regional STEM Fair advanced to the State Science and Engineering Fair, held at Colorado State University April 13-15. At the state event, 16 scholars from six D60 schools participated in the judging and interview process and also took advantage of on-campus opportunities such as interactive tours and guest speakers.

In a surprise moment for most, three recipients of 2023 Colorado Teacher Awards for Pueblo County, along with three Classified support staff honored by the District, received the news through a visit from Superintendent Charlotte Macaluso Wednesday morning.

SUPERINTENDENT MACALUSO RECEIVES SUPERINTENDENT OF THE YEAR AWARD

Colorado Association of Latino/a Administrators and Superintendents, a professional education association that advocates for the continued development and placement of Latino/Latina administrators who are committed to quality public education for all students, honored D60 Superintendent Charlotte Macaluso with a Superintendent of the Year Award.

COMMUNITY RESOURCE FAIR AT RONCALLI STEM ACADEMY

Coordinated by Beulah Heights Counselor Hope Reilly, a community Resource Fair at Roncalli drew representatives from more than 60 agencies and organizations, eager to share available resources and information on youth programs and other offerings designed to improve the quality of life of Puebloans.

GOING GREEN AT DUTCH CLARK STADIUM

On Friday, April 21st -- and in anticipation of Earth Day on Saturday -- student leaders from South, Central and East spent the morning assisting members of Trees Please with planting, mulching and raking.

COMMUNICATIONS TEAM MEMBER HONORED BY PRESS CLUB

Jon Pompia, the District’s Communications and Social Media Manager since November 2022, was honored by the Southern Colorado Press Club with its Damon Runyon Award, acknowledging a lifetime of media accomplishments and contributions.

DISTRICT PERSONNEL AMONG THOSE HONORED BY LIBRARY DISTRICT

For the 34th year, the Pueblo City-County Library District honored women making a positive and uplifting impact in the community through the Outstanding Women Awards. As nominated by colleagues and associates, the 40 awardees included two District principals and a board member, and several others with ties to the District.

CDE GRANT WILL BOLSTER TEACHER MENTORING PROGRAM

Over the course of two years, a $901,100 Colorado Department of Education New Teacher Mentor Grant will provide additional support to strengthen the District’s new teacher mentoring program. The grant was written by Kelly Warren, the District’s Director of Professional Development, with support from Tammy Neal, Executive Director of Human Resources.

DUTCH CLARK STADIUM RENOVATIONS UNDERWAY

Through a partnership between District 60 and the Pueblo Urban Renewal Authority, the City’s most iconic athletic facility is to receive $5.2 million in improvements that will breathe new life and longevity into this hub of community activity.

D60 RECEIVES LOCAL FOOD PROGRAM GRANT

The Colorado Department of Education will award the District $25,333 as part of the Local Food Program Grant, a program that connects Colorado food producers with local school districts.

ROTARIANS AGAIN DELIVER ON DICTIONARY PROMISE

For nearly two decades, members of Pueblo Rotary #43 have contributed to the educational process by purchasing and delivering full color hard-bound Scholastic Children’s Dictionaries to every third grader in Pueblo County.

DISTRICT SCHOLARS PARTICIPATE IN READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY

Throughout the District this week, dignitaries including Mayor Nick Gradisar, firefighters and police officers, business owners, collegiate athletes and coaches, high school student leaders, Pueblo Bulls, and other community notables took a moment out of their busy schedules to read a book with our scholars while stressing the importance of literacy and the joy that comes with reading.

REGIONAL STEM FAIR STATE QUALIFIERS/AWARD WINNERS

For the 21st year, the D60 Elementary and Southern Colorado Regional (6th through 12th grade) STEM Fair attracted well researched and interesting projects in science and engineering categories. From this talented field, 15 middle and high schoolers earned the right to advance to the state competition.
