In a long-standing tradition, three D60 peer-nominated educators and three Classified Support Staff were honored Thursday for their commitment, dedication and professionalism. Each year, the Pueblo County Chapter of the Colorado Teacher of the Year Program honors dedicated, knowledgeable and skilled K-12 classroom educators with a Colorado Teacher of the Year Award.

IN A GALAXY NOT SO FAR AWAY...
With the halls and space of Centennial decked out in a Star Wars-influenced "May the Fourth Be With You: To Explore, Play and Create" theme, participants took advantage of 24 activity stations hosted by volunteers from Google, Collins Aerospace, CSU Pueblo, PCC, the Air Force Academy, Sphero Robotics, Kinazium, Holograms from D11 Palmer HS, and many more.

TOP ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ARTISTS RECOGNIZED
The call for submissions for the 2023 Elementary Art Show drew an impressive 175 entries, with 11 earning Best of Show designation. Nearly 200 patrons attended the opening reception at the Rawlings Library. The "king" of this year's show, "King Kobra" by Elijah Vigil-Camacho of Beulah Heights, earned the Superintendent's Award.

STATE SCIENCE/ENGINEERING FAIR PARTICIPANTS HONORED
A total of 15 projects from the Southern Colorado Regional STEM Fair advanced to the State Science and Engineering Fair, held at Colorado State University April 13-15. At the state event, 16 scholars from six D60 schools participated in the judging and interview process and also took advantage of on-campus opportunities such as interactive tours and guest speakers.

CDE GRANT WILL BOLSTER TEACHER MENTORING PROGRAM
Over the course of two years, a $901,100 Colorado Department of Education New Teacher Mentor Grant will provide additional support to strengthen the District’s new teacher mentoring program. The grant was written by Kelly Warren, the District’s Director of Professional Development, with support from Tammy Neal, Executive Director of Human Resources.
