School Choice in D60
-
The School Choice application window for
the 2023-24 school year has ended.Schools will continue to monitor their available seats through the first few
of weeks of the 2023-24 school year. If they have a seat open for a
wait-listed student, schools will contact the parent directly with an offer.
School Choice for 2023-24 opened in mid-January and more than 1,600 students
have already secured seats at new schools. Many D60 schools still have seats
available in some grades, so it still may be possible for parents to enroll students
at a new school that they prefer at this late date.As with the lottery, students on wait lists are ranked by impartially assigned preference weights and then by random numbers. The wait list is not chronological, and does not operate on a first-come, first-served basis, but the sooner you apply, the more opportunity you will have to receive an offer from a school that you would prefer.
D60 provides a variety of educational opportunities to meet the learning needs of our students. We offer traditional neighborhood schools, International Baccalaureate (IB) and STEM Magnet schools, alternative and online schools, and many more specialty schools. While some schools may have specific focus areas, all of our schools teach the Colorado Academic Standards and offer comprehensive programs for students.
NOTE: If you believe there's a compelling reason for your child to move to a different school during this school year, contact the D60 Student Registration office at 719-253-6014 to apply for transfer during the school year.
What is school choice?
For the past 25 years, parents in Colorado have had the option of enrolling their child in the public school of their choosing, granted that there is room for their child to enroll at a school they prefer.
