SOUTH HOSTS LINK LEADERS FROM THROUGHOUT THE REGION

Girls Cheering

The transition to high school is a major event in the life of a young person, with numerous studies showing that the transition is marked by a period of emotional stress and discomfort: often times resulting in a decrease in academic achievement and an increasingly difficult social adjustment.

Boomerang Project’s Link Crew is a high school transition program designed to welcome freshmen and make them feel comfortable throughout the first year of their high school experience.

Built on the belief that students can help students succeed, Boomerang Project's proven high school transition program trains juniors and seniors to be Link Crew Leaders and mentors.

As positive role models, Link Crew Leaders help motivate and guide freshmen to discover what it takes to be successful during the transition to high school.

Pueblo South High School served as the host site for a Student Link Conference attended by Link Crew Leaders from South, Pueblo East "Eagle Empire"Pueblo Central HighCentennial High School, Canon City High School, William J. Palmer High School (Colorado Springs), Odyssey Early College and Career Options (Colorado Springs), Tesla Educational Opportunity School (Colorado Springs) and Vista Peak Preparatory (Aurora.)

With Boomerang Project’s Kevin Ozar leading the training, Link Crew Leaders participated in team building and hands-on leadership activities designed to strengthen understanding of the Link Program and better prepare the upperclassmen for guiding freshmen for the remainder of the year.

Additionally, Adult Link Coordinators attended and participated in activities designed to impart tools needed to run successful Link programs.
