Prior to the December 11 NFL matchup between the Los Angeles Chargers and Miami Dolphins, a U.S. Military Color Guard presented the colors during the National Anthem.

A member of that Color Guard is a graduate of South, Corporal Luke Kitchen.

Corporal Kitchen was a standout wrestler and football player while a Colt. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and shipped out to boot camp during the pandemic.

"I have since been stationed at Marine Corps Logistics Base, Barstow, California," he said. "My primary Military Occupational Specialty is 2111 Small Arms Repair: I fix and maintain the weapons on base."

When he was offered the opportunity to become part of the base Color Guard, he accepted.

"We do a lot of funerals and ceremonies for the city of Barstow and other places like Victorville or Apple Valley," Corporal Kitchen explained. "And the work eventually paid off, as myself and another Marine were presented the opportunity to represent the Marine Corps and the nation's military at the Sunday Night Football game at SoFi Stadium.

"For me, it definitely was an amazing moment that very few people can say they have been a part of. I’m remain very proud to show what South Colt alumni are capable of."
