K-12 Instructional Learning Plan - January 2021(November 2020)
K-12 Distance Learning Transition
Preschool At Home PlanDistance learning in D60 in 2020-21
As part of District 60's Return to School Plan for the 2020-21 school year, families were given the option for students to have a 100% online learning model for at least the first semester of the school year.
Details about distance learning option
Descriptive Elements and Rationale:
- Provides alternative learning option for families who prefer a fully online option or for students who for health reasons are unable to attend in-person learning
- For staffing reasons, families who choose this option will be asked to commit to a minimum of one semester of fully online learning before being allowed to transfer back to in-person learning
- All parents of in-person learners will be given the option of transferring to the fully online option at semester
- A “hardship” transfer request process will be in place for requesting a change in instructional model in the middle of the semester
- All students will be issued a technology device. Students in grades K-1 will receive an iPad; students in grades 2-12 will receive a Chromebook
- Grades K-5 will engage in ½ day (AM or PM) synchronous learning taught by a D60 elementary teacher using Google Meet, and ½ day asynchronous learning lessons and will utilize D60 Board adopted elementary curriculum materials
- Grades 6-12 will engage in asynchronous learning and will utilize Board adopted APEX self-paced online courses. D60 content licensed teachers will manage APEX student accounts and reach out to students individually to provide supplementary instructional lessons and support
- ESS, CLDE, READ Act, and GT support will be provided by a D60 qualified teacher to those students who qualify
- Social-emotional support and counseling services will be provided as needed by the home school
- Students will remain enrolled in their home school to provide an easy transition back to in-person learning when appropriate
- Virtual online instructors will be hired from existing staff. Priority will be placed on teachers who request accommodation and meet the definition of "Vulnerable Individuals” under the Governor's current order. A group interview process will be conducted at the district level.
- Additional recommendations from a K-12 online teacher feedback group will be shared with district and school leadership for implementation
