Student Activities
Extra-curricular and/or co-curricular activities play a vital role in the life and tradition of any high school. Students’ first responsibility is to their educational preparation in the pursuit of academic excellence. Participation and involvement in school activities is an education of a different sort, yet
important to a well-rounded high school experience.Commitment to the school and its programs help students develop a sense of belonging -a sense of achievement - in fact, an appreciation of wholesome competition in preparation for life beyond Central High School.
Involvement in athletics, clubs, and organizations helps students cultivate relationships that can be rewarding and long-lasting. Participation helps students develop an understanding of people and helps them establish loyalties to teammates, to Central, and to the community.

Color Guard
All J.R.O.T.C. students are eligible to try out for Color Guard. Students present colors at football games, basketball games, assemblies, graduation, parades, and other civic events.

Distributive Education Clubs of America (Deca)
DECA is a student organization, which encourages free enterprise, economic awareness, career development, studies in marketing, creative marketing, practical experience. DECA believes in competition and offers state and national recognition, including a scholarship loan award program. DECA is developing future leaders for marketing and management.

Drill Team
Students must be a member of the J.R.O.T.C. Battalion and participate in 80% of competitions, which will be held in Denver, Canon City, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo schools.

FCW/FCA-Fellowship of Christian Athletes: FCA is a non-denominational Christian sports ministry that focuses on Coaches, Campus, Camp and Community ministry.

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)
Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is an organization for all high school students participating in business and office programs. The purpose of FBLA is to provide more opportunities for secondary students in business and office education to develop more vocational and career competencies and to promote civic and personal responsibility. FBLA participates in many activities throughout the year, including fundraising, socials, and charitable events. The highlight of the program provides FBLA members the opportunity to participate in competition on the district, state, and national levels.

Girls’ Cabinet
The purpose of Girls’ Cabinet is to represent the girls of Central in service to the school and community.
A few of the many activities are:• to usher at Open House
• to conduct the reception for all Royalty Assemblies
• to plan and sponsor the Winter Sports Assembly
• to organize various money-making projectsMembers shall be elected each year in May (October for freshmen). Candidates must have permission from their parents and maintain a 2.5 grade point average. Weekly meetings are mandatory.

HOSA
HOSA is an international student organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education (HSE) Division of ACTE. HOSA's two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people.

Italian Club
Italian Club is open to all students interested in the Italian language and culture. The purpose of the club is to promote the study of Italian and to instill pride in the Italian heritage of our community. Italian club is involved in a number of activities including a service project, social events, and fundraising. Several members participate in an Italian language competition sponsored by the Dante Alighieri Society; each year students are successful in winning cash awards.

Key Club
The Central High School Key club is a community service organization working in conjunction with the Pueblo Kiwanis club, which provides financial and moral support. The Kiwanis Club is an adult community service organization consisting of local businessmen and women. Key Club’s main objectives are to serve the school and community and to promote the adoption and application of higher standards in scholarship, sportsmanship, and social contacts. Members of the Central Key club have volunteered and participated in the El Pomar Foundation Program, the Pueblo International Airshow, the St.Anthony’s Soup Kitchen, and have visited various nursing homes in the Central area. Members pay $3.50 for Rocky Mountain District dues and $3.50 for Key Club International dues. These entitle members to one-year memberships as well as a subscription to the Keynoter, the Key Club International Magazine.

National Honor Society (NHS)
Open to second-semester sophomores, juniors, and seniors who earn a 3.5 cumulative G.P.A., show evidence of character, do service for school and community, and exhibit leadership as well as academic ability. Members must attend meetings, pay dues, participate in NHS projects, and complete community service work.

Rifle Team
Students must try out for the team, and be able to shoot at least 200 out of a possible 300 points. Several competitions throughout the district and state are part of the activities. Letters, medals, trophies and plaques are part of the program’s recognition process.

Spanish Club
Spanish Club is open to all students to promote student involvement in school as well as enrich the study of Spanish.

Speech & Debate Team
The forensics program affords the opportunity to travel and to exercise wit. Competition is offered for students who like to read aloud with feeling, humorous, poetic, dramatic literature, or speak oratorically, or analyze current events, deliberate legislation, or build arguments and counterattacks on issues of national consequence. Speech and Debate team members prepare for and enter into speaking competition using critical thinking and forceful speaking. Competition is held among other schools at meets conducted throughout the state on Fridays and Saturdays from October through March. By placing among the top five finalists in any event at a meet, a competitor earns points toward the 75 required to letter and seeds to qualify for state and national contests.

The student council is involved in a number of activities, including the Bell Assembly, the Mr. “C” Assembly, and the Recognition Assembly. This group provides leadership and direction for various activities and assists the school.
