Seal of Biliteracy

The Seal of Biliteracy is a nationally-recognized endorsement on a student’s high school diploma and transcript. It signals to colleges, universities, and employers that a student is proficient in two or more languages — a valuable academic and professional asset.

To earn the Seal of Biliteracy, students must meet Colorado’s minimum requirements in both English and a second language:

• English Proficiency - Students must:
  • Earn a GPA of 3.0 or higher in English Language Arts courses AND one of the following:
  • SAT Evidence-Based Reading & Writing score of 470 or higher
  • AP English Language or Literature score of 3 or higher
  • IB English A or Literature A score of 4 or higher

• Second Language Proficiency - Students must show proficiency in a second language by meeting one of the following:
  • AP World Language exam score of 3 or higher
  • IB Language exam score of 4 or higher
  • 4 years of high school study in the language with a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Proficient score (Intermediate High or higher) on the AAPPL or STAMP 4S assessment (These assessments will be made available to students if an AP/IB exam is not an option.)

A simple online application will be available starting October 1. Students will:

1. Complete the application form
2. Submit required documentation and/or test scores
3. Take an approved language assessment if needed (AAPPL or STAMP 4S)
