D60's Laude Honor System

Decorated 2019 male graduate at graduation

Beginning with the Class of 2022, Pueblo School District 60 will officially transition to the Latin Laude Honor System.

The Latin Laude Honor System classifies honor graduates with the designation of "cum laude" (Latin for "with honor") instead of the previous valedictorian/salutatorian system. The Latin Laude Honor System determines honors based on the 4.0 grade-point-average scale:

  • Summa Cum Laude (“with highest honor”) – students earning a 3.80 GPA or higher
  • Magna Cum Laude (“with great honor”) – students earning a 3.60-3.79 GPA
  • Cum Laude (“with honor”) – students earning a 3.40-3.59 GPA

Why the change?

Today, most colleges and universities do not recognize weighted grade-point-averages. They do, however, recognize the Latin Laude Honor System, which is what is commonly used at most colleges and universities.
