Ian Espinoza
Ian Espinoza, a high-achieving scholar at South High School, is one of only 10 Colorado seniors to be accepted into a prestigious collegiate program that will fast track him to medical school. The BA/BS-MD Degree Program at the University of Colorado Denver and Anschutz Medical Campus aims to promote the diversity of practicing medical professionals in Colorado and to better serve the health care needs of the state by assembling up to 10 outstanding students each year from broadly diverse backgrounds.

Trent Johnson holds a hat at his custom hat shop in Greeley, CO
Although his name might not be as immediately recognizable as Kevin Costner, Cole Hauser or Kelly Ryley, Trent Johnson is as much a part of the popular “Yellowstone” series as its stars. Trent, who attended Highland Park and Roncalli before graduating from South High School in 1990, is the owner of Greeley Hat Works, whose origin dates back to 1909. Perhaps most famously, the hats worn by Governor John Dutton and his family, ranch hand Rip Wheeler and the rest of the “Yellowstone” entourage – are the results of Trent’s latest foray into the world of television and movie costuming.

The CT House is a program that teaches independent living skills to students 21 and older in order to prepare them for adulthood. The skills pertain to leisure, recreation, home maintenance, personal care and community participation, with an opportunity to continue their education under certified teachers.

Prior to the December 11 NFL matchup between the Los Angeles Chargers and Miami Dolphins, a U.S. Military Color Guard presented the colors during the National Anthem. A member of that Color Guard is a graduate of South, Corporal Luke Kitchen.

Set to open in Fall 2023 as sparkling, state-of-the-art buildings conducive to instruction and learning, the new Sunset Park Elementary and Franklin School of Innovation sites received a host of special visitors Friday, including Superintendent Charlotte Macaluso and members of her Leadership Team, Principals John Hull (Sunset Park) and Dana DiTomaso Junkman (Franklin) and staff, and D60 Board of Education members.

In recognition of the community’s support of the eatery – through the pandemic and beyond – the owners spread some robust holiday cheer to five deserving Bessemer Academy families. In addition to a $200 gift card purchased by the Terrones family, a live Christmas tree and a parcel of Pueblo Chile, both donated by Peppers and Petals on the Mesa, were presented to the grateful recipients.
