CHRISTMAS EXTRAVAGANZA LIVES ON IN RAY AGUILERA’S MEMORY
Ten years ago, Mr. Aguilera launched, through the Pueblo Poverty Foundation he founded, a Christmas Extravaganza. This festive holiday event saw Mr. Aguilera joyfully don his Santa Claus suit to personally hand out more than 1,000 stockings filled with goodies and trinkets to the youngsters from the schools in his represented district.

CAPTURING KIDS’ HEARTS PAYING TANGIBLE DIVIDENDS AT PAA
Based on the assertion that educators cannot have a child’s mind until they have the heart, Capturing Kids’ Hearts is designed to strengthen students’ connectedness to others through enhancing healthy bonds and establishing collaborative agreements of acceptable behavior.

THE SEASON TO THINK ABOUT OTHERS
A holiday tradition at many of our elementary schools are in-school “gift shops,” which provide scholars with the opportunity to obtain items at low – or in some cases no cost – in order to make Christmas brighter for those on their gift lists. Without fail, each and every little one who made his or her way through the gift shops did so with others on their mind. From parents to siblings to classmates to pets, funds were exclusively earmarked for those close to the little shoppers’ hearts.

GOOGLE PARTNERSHIP ENHANCES DISTRICT-WIDE HOUR OF CODE
Across the District, the Ignite Talks were complemented by hands-on activities centered around the use of code to achieve a desired result, whether that be to direct a robotic caterpillar to a piece of “food” or design a virtual dance routine worthy of a rating of “10.”

OPERATION BLUE SANTA IS UNDERWAY
For the third year, Operation Blue Santa will see every elementary school student in the District receive an age-appropriate gift. An application for the cache of toys, submitted by Freddie Gallegos – the longtime director of the Pueblo Toys for Tots – was met with approval, enabling this heart-warming collaboration to once again enrich the lives of thousands of hard-working youngsters throughout the District.

STUDENTS LEAD THE WAY AS DISTRICT DOCUMENTS STATE CONVENTION
For the 81st time, school board members, superintendents and administrators, and students from nearly 180 school districts from across the state converged at The Broadmoor for the state convention of the Colorado Association of School Boards. And for the fourth year, Pueblo School District 60 was there, at the invitation of CASB leadership, to document and chronicle the gathering.
