AT&T contributed more than $15,260 to the Pueblo School District 60 Education Foundation in support of its mental wellness initiative. To complement that contribution, the D60 Education Foundation is redirecting more than $23,300 it received from AT&T in 2019 to support the mental wellness initiative.

Even without a pandemic hovering over them, the holidays can be a time where stress and worry, rather than comfort and joy, are prevalent.

Jon's addition to the communications team has already been noticed with the outpouring of news articles now written internally. "We always enjoyed sharing positive news stories with Jon in the past and knew that he would do his best to cover our events," said D60's director of communications, Dalton Sprouse. "Now that he is working for us, he can dedicate his time to share even more of the stories that are worthy of sharing with our community."

In a drive-through format, and through the cooperation of a host of community partners and private donors, nearly 270 Bobcats, preschoolers through fifth grade, took a break from asynchronous learning to receive winter wear (scarves, head covers, gloves, socks), a fleece blanket, age-appropriate book, and a Christmas stocking filled with holiday-themed treats.

For the past 15 years, Ray Aguilera – founder of the Pueblo Poverty Foundation and a city councilman representing the Bessemer area – has spearheaded a festive Christmas giveaway to reward Columbian, Carlile and Minnequa students for their academic efforts throughout the year.

In just its second year, this Career and Technical Education pathway is led by Arin Hart, whose extensive and varied experience in criminal justice brings an enriching, real-world touch to his classroom instruction.

For four days, school resource officers and staff from the recipient schools braved conditions more frightful than delightful to ensure a brighter holiday for the youngsters they educate, protect and serve.

The goal is to have the students be successful in college, so they can get those jobs and stay in our community, so our community flourishes. And with the training and knowledge offered through Central’s CTE program, students are well prepared for that post-secondary progression.

If you are 21 years or older, have a high school diploma or equivalent and enjoy working with children, Pueblo School District 60 wants to share a rewarding opportunity with you.

A “school within a school,” the Health Academy’s presence in D60 dates back to 1995, when this particular CTE pathway was established in response to the rapidly growing need for health care professionals in Southern Colorado. Through partnerships with Pueblo Community College, Colorado State University Pueblo, Parkview Medical Center, St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center, and other community health care agencies, the academy and its three-instructor staff continue to provide students with post-secondary education readiness as well as certifications that allow for immediate employment.
