SCHOOL CHOICE WINDOW NOW OPEN
Through the Public Schools of Choice Law passed in the early 1990s, families have the right to enroll their children in any school, for any reason. If there is room in a preferred Pueblo School District 60 school, and transportation is not an issue, students are welcome: regardless of residency and other factors. In the fall, the District will welcome new buildings for Centennial and East high schools, Sunset Park Elementary and Franklin School of Innovation, and a brand-new institution: Nettie S. Freed K-8 Expeditionary. The School Choice “lottery window” is now open, giving D60 parents the best chance of winning a seat for their child or children in the school of choice.

After a fourth-place finish in 2022, Roncalli STEM Academy scholar Zack Bays conquered a field of more than 25 of the District’s top spellers to claim the crown in the 46th annual District 60 Middle School Spelling Bee. With KOAA meteorologist Sam Schrier serving as Master of Ceremonies, spellers from Corwin, Goodnight School, Pueblo Academy of Arts, Heaton, Risley, Roncalli, Ersilia Cruz, and PSAS (Fulton Heights and Jones Campus) tackled a procession of words in front of judges Steve Henson, David Montera, and D60 Board Member Barb Clementi.

HONORING OUR SCHOOL BOARD
The role of a school board director, which comes with no compensation, is one that requires time, dedication, patience, compassion and commitment. To honor those who serve on school boards, Governor Jared Polis has proclaimed January as School Board Recognition Month. During Tuesday’s regular meeting of the D60 Board of Education, that proclamation was read by D60 Director of Communication Dalton Sprouse.
