Pride & Patriotism

In cooperation with the Center for American Values in Pueblo and Pueblo's veterans, the annual Pueblo School District 60 Pride and Patriotism, a tribute event to honor our military veterans and active duty service members, has quickly become the premier Veterans Day event celebrated in Pueblo, the Home of Heroes.

The Pride and Patriotism event is a tribute to our military heroes who have made extreme sacrifices to strengthen America’s values, allowing us to enjoy our diversity, culture, and traditions freely. It is imperative for our community, children, and future generations to understand the sacrifices made for their freedom and three core values – honor, integrity, and patriotism – needed to sustain this freedom.

By understanding the importance of the sacrifices made by all types of military heroes, our community will continue to keep Pueblo and America prosperous.

Pueblo School District 60 students in every grade from Kindergarten to 12th are asked to participate in a Pride and Patriotism tribute contest in which they created an original piece of writing to pay tribute to our military heroes. This includes active duty service members, veterans, prisoners of war (POW), missing in action (MIA), fallen soldiers, and military spouses and their families. Entries are judged; and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners are chosen in grades Kindergarten through 2nd, 3rd through 5th, 6th through 8th, and 9th through 12th.

The event features collaborative art displays that honor our military heroes, created by student artists. Music students also pay tribute to our military heroes at the event, performing songs of patriotism, hope, and freedom.

This annual event would not be possible without the support of Kaiser Permanente who has generously sponsored the program each year.
