    SCHOOL CHOICE WINDOW NOW OPEN

Through the Public Schools of Choice Law passed in the early 1990s, families have the right to enroll their children in any school, for any reason. If there is room in a preferred Pueblo School District 60 school, and transportation is not an issue, students are welcome: regardless of residency and other factors. In the fall, the District will welcome new buildings for Centennial and East high schools, Sunset Park Elementary and Franklin School of Innovation, and a brand-new institution: Nettie S. Freed K-8 Expeditionary. The School Choice “lottery window” is now open, giving D60 parents the best chance of winning a seat for their child or children in the school of choice.

    HONORING OUR SCHOOL BOARD

The role of a school board director, which comes with no compensation, is one that requires time, dedication, patience, compassion and commitment. To honor those who serve on school boards, Governor Jared Polis has proclaimed January as School Board Recognition Month. During Tuesday’s regular meeting of the D60 Board of Education, that proclamation was read by D60 Director of Communication Dalton Sprouse.

UNIVERSAL PRESCHOOL OPENS DOORS FOR MORE FAMILIES

Beginning in the 2023-24 school year, the state-funded Universal Preschool Colorado program offers every 4-year-old child the opportunity to attend a half-day (up to 15 hours) of preschool. In the year before they are eligible for kindergarten, children with certain qualifying factors are eligible for an additional 15 hours on top of the half-day programming, making for a full day of preschool.

    FOUNTAIN'S LIVING WAX MUSEUM

The second graders of Fountain International Magnet School are learning about history by living it. In a unique project entitled Living Wax Museum, the young scholars selected a historical figure or a living dignitary whose impact on the world is significant. The Lions then spent weeks researching the life of the selected figure before preparing a short synopsis from the gathered information.
