Do I need to fill out a school choice request to keep my child in the same school?
-
If your child wants to remain at their same school for the following school year, in most cases, the answer is "no," you do not have to fill out another school choice request. If your child has previously "choiced" into a school, he or she does not need to re-apply to stay at the same school.
If your child is a fifth-grader at Goodnight School (K-8), a place in sixth grade will be reserved for him or her next year at your neighborhood middle school (not at Goodnight).
What if I want my child to continue attending Goodnight for sixth grade?
Goodnight School is a neighborhood elementary school for many families in southwest Pueblo, but it also offers a middle school program for a limited number of students. Students living in Pueblo and currently attending Goodnight in fifth grade will be expected to attend their neighborhood middle school for sixth grade in the next school year. Goodnight is not a neighborhood middle school.
Parents who wish to have their child continue at Goodnight for middle school must submit a school choice application to be eligible for a place there. Students currently attending Goodnight will receive preferential consideration over those who are attending elsewhere. If a child wins a spot in sixth grade, he or she may continue to grades 7 and 8 without participating in the school choice process again.
