District 60 Laude Honor System
-
Beginning with the Class of 2022, Pueblo School District 60 will officially transition to the Latin Laude Honor System.
The Latin Laude Honor System classifies honor graduates with the designation of "cum laude" (Latin for "with honor") instead of the previous valedictorian/salutatorian system. The Latin Laude Honor System determines honors based on the 4.0 grade-point-average scale:
- Summa Cum Laude (“with highest honor”) – students earning a 3.80 GPA or higher
- Magna Cum Laude (“with great honor”) – students earning a 3.60-3.79 GPA
- Cum Laude (“with honor”) – students earning a 3.40-3.59 GPA
Why the change?
Today, most colleges and universities do not recognize weighted grade-point-averages. They do, however, recognize the Latin Laude Honor System, which is what is commonly used at most colleges and universities.

Honors Designations (AP, IB, CE, Honors classes)
Under the Latin Laude Honor System, students that take honors/advanced, AP, IB and CE courses would earn "Laude honor points."
For example, a graduating student with a 3.95 grade-point-average and nine or more honor points from taking advanced courses will be presented at graduation as "summa cum laude, with distinction."
Honors Designations would be added based on the number of Laude honor points a student earns through the end of their senior year:
- With “Distinction” – 9 or more honor points
- With “Honors” – 6-8.5 honor points
- With “Merit” – 3-5.5 honor points
-
Honor Roll and Academic Lettering
Students' overall GPA will be used to determine Honor Roll and Academic Lettering each semester by using the following criteria:
- Students earning a 3.8 or higher for completing a full course load during the semester will earn an academic letter. After the initial letter, students may earn a bar by earning a 3.8 or higher in following semesters.
- Student earning a 3.4 GPA – 3.79 and completing a full course load each semester shall be recognized on the Honor Roll.
-
Graduation Ceremonies
All students graduating with a Laude designation shall be recognized at graduation. The method for selecting the top scholar student commencement speaker(s) shall be determined based upon the following factors, in priority order:
- the student’s Laude Designation level earned
- highest state administered SAT test score
- cumulative grade point average.

Graduation Guidelines
Pueblo School District 60 graduates must complete a minimum of 24 credits in order to participate in graduation. To reach that goal, District 60 has identified three avenues toward graduation, each designed to best fit the goals of each student.
In addition, students must demonstrate their high school competency and post-secondary readiness by meeting ASSESSMENT OR PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS SET FORTH BY THE STATE OF COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.
