Weather Closure Protocol
-
In the event of a weather delay or closure, Pueblo School District 60 makes every effort to notify students, parents and guardians of the situation. Parents will be notified via phone message, e-mail and text message, and we will also notify the news media and post the notification on our district and school websites, Facebook, and Twitter.
Procedures during delays and closures

🤔 How District 60 decides to have a delay or closure
When weather conditions get bad, District 60 begins a deliberative process to decide whether a delay or closure may be appropriate. That process is as follows:
- If snow is forecast, the Superintendent, the Executive Director of Facilities and Construction Management, and the Director of Communications wake at 3 a.m. to survey their immediate areas and begin driving around each of District 60’s four quadrants.
- Beginning at 3:30 a.m., area drivers report conditions, sharing information and recommendations. The weather forecast is then reviewed again.
- The superintendent reviews all available information and makes a final decision by 5:30 a.m. Once the decision is made, it cannot be changed, even if the weather forecast changes.
- If a delay or cancellation is to be implemented, families will receive an automated phone call no later than 6 a.m. and notifications are sent to local media agencies and posted on the district website and social media channels.
- In rare cases it is possible for the district to make a decision the evening before for a bad weather day. When that happens, families will be notified between 9 and 10 p.m.

🕑 When schools are on a 2-hour delay
- School begins two hours later than the normal start times.
- Secondary schools will operate on a condensed class schedule.
- Dismissal times will be the same as usual for all schools, including morning preschool programs.
- Before and After-school Daycare programs will operate on a normal schedule.
- We will monitor conditions throughout the day and make a decision about whether it is safe to hold after-school activities. We will communicate that decision as early as possible before the end of the school day.
- If you choose to keep your child home because of the weather conditions, it will be an excused absence
-
❄️ When schools are closed

💻 Remote Learning Option
In the event of snow, inclement weather, or any other applicable emergency situation, the Superintendent or her designee has the discretion to call a traditional “snow day” or to call a single asynchronous remote learning day.
If an asynchronous remote learning day is called by the Superintendent or her designee, students will complete assignments independently online as follows:
Students:
-
K-12 students should log into their class(es) online and complete all online assignments independently from home. (They will not interact directly with the teacher online.) Lessons will be posted for completion by no later than two hours after the regular school start time and can be completed at any time thereafter.
Staff:
-
K-12 teachers shall not report for in-person work at their school/building but shall be available for duties as assigned by their supervisor during the duration of the contract day.
-
K-12 counselors and nurses shall not report for in-person work at their school/building but shall be available for duties as assigned by their supervisor during the duration of the contract day.
-
K-12 teaching/learning shall be performed asynchronously.
-
The school day shall start two hours later than the building’s normal schedule. The teacher contract day shall start and end at the normal time.
-
Teachers shall post their lessons at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the school’s revised two-hour delay schedule.
-
Pre-scheduled building and district-level meetings may still be held, per the meeting organizer’s discretion, so long as they are held within the revised school day (i.e., after the two-hour delay). New meetings may be scheduled if they are essential for the success of the school’s revised two-hour delay schedule.
-
Classified staff does not punch in on an asynchronous remote learning day.
